10 excuses not to have a website

When I started business in 2002 I was the sole person responsible for doing the sales and marketing for our website design and hosting company. I used to cold call prospects and meet many potential clients. During the last decade when Internet was going through a .com boom and everyone around the world was trying to setup a website, most of the companies in our home city of Ludhiana (India) were reluctant to have a website.

It was difficult to convince them to have a website for their business and it was difficult to convince them about the benefits of a website. These are the top 10 excuses I used to get from these old creatures

These are the top 10 excuses I used to get from these old creatures:

  • My competitors do not have websites, why should I bother?
  • There’s no room for a website address on my business card.
  • What’s the point of customers getting to know my business, it’s not facebook!
  • his goes for my competitors, too – last thing I need is them snooping about.
  • I have my loyal customers who give me enough work  - why expanding it?
  • I don’t need customer feedback – who reads it anyway?
  • Everyone knows me, no need to put my business details online.
  • I do not want to sell online – frauds and scams on internet will only make my customers go away.
  • I do not know how a website can make money. It’s all rubbish, probably.
  • I do not have time to waste – I’d rather focus on my customers.

I am very happy that most of businesses do not make the above excuses. Now they have their websites done (of course it took them many years to stop making the above excuses), but now they have come up with excuses for not promoting their website and getting business from it.

Imagine you started your business from home, then you decided to move your business out of home and open a shop or office in a good business location? You made a move!

Imagine when only your family members and your friends were involved in your business and later you start hiring people when your business was growing.

Think about a moment when you had a Hero bicycle or just an old Priya scooter for the business and later you purchased a car.

When you had no phone, later you had one, then now you have the latest mobile

Then why are you reluctant to embrace the natural progression of website and online marketing strategies? Why do you believe that you cannot increase your revenue from your website? What is holding you back? Surely, with the new digital decade ahead of us, now is the time to ask yourself why?
